California Wedding Reception Venues

Two celebrations, two settings: a Gilroy winery and a Simi Valley wedding venue.

A reception venue needs to work for more than the first dance. Think about where people will gather, how the evening will move and which photographs you want before the room fills.

These two California venues appear in our published wedding journals. This is a small selection, not a ranking or an exhaustive directory. The photographs show individual celebrations, not a guarantee of a venue’s current layout or inclusions.

Santa Clara Valley

Kirigin Cellars

11550 Watsonville Road, Gilroy, California 95020

Akshatha and Aayush’s June 28, 2026 celebration joined a Telugu wedding and reception at Kirigin Cellars. Their journal moves from an outdoor ceremony to cake, a playful game and evening dancing.

The winery offers indoor and outdoor event spaces. Ask which spaces your booking includes, then leave time between the ceremony and reception for family photographs and the room setup. If you want portraits among the vines, agree on access and timing with the venue.

The Vineyards

2525 Stow Street, Simi Valley, California 93063

Tanya and Ronit held their wedding and reception at The Vineyards on May 18, 2025. Their reception photographs show an entrance beneath a softly lit canopy, then a dance floor filled with family and friends.

The Simi Valley visitor bureau lists indoor and outdoor event areas here. When touring, walk the route between your ceremony, portraits and reception, and ask how the evening layout changes if the weather requires a different plan.

Thoughtful preparation

Tour the room as an evening, not an empty space

Start at the entrance and follow the route to cocktails, dinner and dancing. Ask where speeches will happen and whether guests can see the people speaking. Look for a place to take family photographs without blocking service or the entrance.

Share the final floor plan and lighting plan with your photography team. The same room can look very different once tables, staging and a dance floor are in place.

Protect time for the photographs you want

If portraits are important to you, plan a short session before guests arrive or during a quieter transition. Let your team know about entrances, speeches, performances and surprises so they can be ready without interrupting them.

Ask what changes after dark

Talk through lighting, sound and the order of events with your venue and planner. A garden in daylight and a reception after sunset need different photography plans. Confirm a weather alternative and any outdoor access limits before committing your portrait schedule.
