01 · THE WEDDING STORY
Varun & Nirali · Wedding photographs by Urban Phulkari.
At the heart of Varun and Nirali’s wedding film is a small, beautiful idea: love can feel like home. Peace and excitement, held together. The comfort of being understood, with the promise of everything still to come.
Their celebration at Saint Johns Resort in Plymouth, Michigan, becomes more personal with every voice we hear. Friends bring laughter. A father brings the memories of watching his youngest daughter grow. And the couple bring a sense of belonging that reaches beyond the two of them.
A story told by the people who know them
Early in the film, a friend recalls Varun’s hesitation about telling Nirali’s brother about their relationship. The memory is affectionate and funny—a reminder that even the grandest celebration begins with the everyday courage of letting someone into your life.
Later, Nirali’s father reflects on the years that have brought his daughter to this day. Beneath the celebration is the tenderness of a parent remembering a childhood, while making room for a new chapter.
A welcome that becomes family
Warmth is a thread through their film. Nirali describes how easily Varun makes people feel familiar and cared for. Varun remembers being welcomed by her family without feeling out of place. Together, those reflections reveal something worth celebrating: a relationship that makes the circle around it warmer, too.

A birthday. A wedding. A beginning.
Near the close of the film, Nirali reveals another reason the day is special: it is Varun’s birthday. Her wish for her husband turns toward the life ahead—a family bringing American, Punjabi, and Gujarati identities together.
That is the feeling their story leaves behind. The joy of a celebration, and the gentler joy of knowing where you belong.

Portraits and moments that hold the feeling of their celebration.
For Varun and Nirali’s pre-wedding portraits, the setting becomes part of the frame: ivy-covered walls, textured surfaces, and the lines of coastal steps. We use those shapes to give their connection room to breathe.
A hand held. A quiet kiss. A moment together beneath an open sky. These portraits recall the quieter days before the wedding celebration filled the story with family and movement.
